She graduated from Centre College in 2012 with a B.S. in Biology.
What I enjoy most about my role as an educator is helping students become people who can exist and thrive in our current world. This year, I was given the opportunity to teach a class focusing on leadership. The students in my leadership dynamics course have been exploring the elements of a successful leader in terms of the society that we live in today.
We have broken down the concept of leadership into a list of concrete characteristics, approaching each on a weekly basis. Each student has become a scholar about one of the leadership traits, teaching their classmates about it, leading them through discussions, and sharing real world experiences and media that connect to the topic.
We’ve spent the first 10 weeks of school looking at communication and listening skills, empathy, compassion, open-mindedness, strong will, humility, perspectives and self-awareness. It has led to some very candid conversations about where they are in their understanding of themselves, the world around them, the leaders they admire and the leader they want to become.
This is the first course of its kind at Western, so we (meaning the class and myself) have been creating the curriculum together. Today a student shared this amazing insight: “Seeing the world through your eyes gets cloudy, but seeing the world through others makes things clearer.” It has an incredible learning opportunity for all of us.[/vc_column_text][stm_multy_separator][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][stm_post_tags][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][stm_share code=”JTNDc3BhbiUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTI3c3RfZmFjZWJvb2tfbGFyZ2UlMjclMjBkaXNwbGF5VGV4dCUzRCUyNyUyNyUzRSUzQyUyRnNwYW4lM0UlMEElM0NzcGFuJTIwY2xhc3MlM0QlMjdzdF90d2l0dGVyX2xhcmdlJTI3JTIwZGlzcGxheVRleHQlM0QlMjclMjclM0UlM0MlMkZzcGFuJTNFJTBBJTNDc3BhbiUyMGNsYXNzJTNEJTI3c3RfZ29vZ2xlcGx1c19sYXJnZSUyNyUyMGRpc3BsYXlUZXh0JTNEJTI3JTI3JTNFJTNDJTJGc3BhbiUzRSUwQSUzQ3NwYW4lMjBjbGFzcyUzRCUyN3N0X3NoYXJldGhpc19sYXJnZSUyNyUyMGRpc3BsYXlUZXh0JTNEJTI3JTI3JTNFJTNDJTJGc3BhbiUzRQ==”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][stm_post_author][stm_post_comments][vc_basic_grid post_type=”post” max_items=”10″ element_width=”6″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1476884661620-370bd4d1-8ad2-1″][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”default” el_class=”sidebar-area-right sidebar-area”]
