Rowan Claypool Honored as One of Louisville’s Most Admired CEOs
Teach Kentucky is thrilled to celebrate its founder and president, Rowan Claypool, who has been recognized as one of Louisville’s Most Admired CEOs by Louisville Business First. This recognition shines a spotlight on Rowan’s transformative leadership and his unwavering commitment to improving education in Louisville.
Rowan founded Teach Kentucky in 2001 with a bold vision: to combat the region’s “brain drain” by recruiting and retaining exceptional new teachers from across the nation to serve in Louisville’s public schools. Over the past 23 years, his dream has grown into a thriving program that has brought over 500 educators to the city, enriching classrooms and making a lasting impact on students and schools.
In reflecting on his journey, Rowan shared the moment that defined his career—a Thursday evening on his couch when he made the decision to fully commit to his dream of creating Teach Kentucky. “It would take a village,” he recalled, “but I uniquely had the vision, passion, and loose networks that would be required for success.” That courage to take a risk has paid off in ways few could have imagined.
Under Rowan’s leadership, Teach Kentucky has become a nationally competitive program, attracting over 300 applicants from nearly every state last year. Thanks to a combination of innovative financial incentives, including AmeriCorps education scholarships and relocation support, the organization brought 39 talented educators to Louisville this year alone. Rowan’s dedication to addressing the nationwide teacher shortage has positioned Teach Kentucky as a critical force in ensuring the vitality of education in the region.
Rowan’s recognition as one of Louisville’s Most Admired CEOs is a testament not only to his leadership but also to his ability to inspire a community-wide effort to improve education. He credits the “chorus of supporters” who have helped Teach Kentucky thrive over the years, but it’s clear that his vision and determination have been the driving force behind the organization’s success.
As Teach Kentucky looks ahead to its 25th anniversary in 2027, Rowan’s leadership will continue to guide the organization’s efforts to attract, support, and retain the next generation of exceptional educators. His story reminds us all of the power of a bold idea, a willingness to take risks, and a steadfast commitment to making a difference.
Congratulations, Rowan, on this well-deserved honor! Your Teach Kentucky family and the Louisville community are proud to celebrate this milestone with you.
