Jefferson County Public Schools are on the move–up! A number of JCPS schools are striving to change their classification based on state rankings, including Fern Creek High School, Valley High School, and Doss High School (see recent articles below). We are proud to say that Teach Kentucky educators have been constructive agents in these turnaround schools.

Fern Creek High School moves from Priority to Distinguished Status

At Fern Creek, two teachers have been instrumental in elevating literacy with a unique “Food Literacy” course combining a study of food and English. Along with six other Teach Kentucky colleagues who have implemented digital literacy, taught AP courses, and led student clubs, they have helped moved the school from Priority status (lowest ranking) to Distinguished (highest ranking).

Valley High School expands its science curriculum

At Valley High School, our teachers have been the backbone of science education. They are forming the core of project-based learning strategies at the school through partnerships with Ford. Two of our teachers have started a science fair at the school, and serve as PLC leaders.

Doss High School focused on school culture

At Doss, along with new leadership, our teachers are helping to make a difference in the school’s culture. Two of our teachers have participated in the Ford NGL partnership, and they serve as mentors, coaches, and innovators in a school on the move.

Teach Kentucky educators are remaining in these turnaround schools, developing themselves as mature, seasoned school leaders. It has been a hallmark of Teach Kentucky that our teachers in priority schools stay where they were originally hired. This reflects their mission and commitment to educate the students who are at the greatest risk in our community.

We are very proud to be a part of the team at each one of the schools improving educational attainment in our Louisville community.

  • I originally was reading an article on Kentucky Teachers newsletter link and was intrigued since I’m currently working at a priority school (Byck Elementary). I am currently in the ACES program but wanted to continue to explore other areas that will enhance and improve what I bring to my classroom experience. Please reply with what other opportunities are available for me.

Teach Kentucky Offered A Perfect Chance for a Career

Teach Kentucky is Different! Here’s Why

While there are some individuals who decide as teenagers to become teachers and stay on that path throughout their lives (kudos to them!), most people’s professional trajectory looks a little more crooked and winding. They may think about going into the education field but find that something else grabs their attention in college. For some […]

Teach Kentucky Provides A Community

Teaching can definitely feel overwhelming, even if you’ve taken all the courses and done student teaching and networked with other educators. It is a little like parenthood: you can plan and prepare all you want, but you don’t really understand the work until or unless you do it. Some people come to teaching (and parenthood) […]
